Sarah A. Wells was born near Zanesville, Muskingum County, Ohio, May 10, 1839, died at her home near Harrisonville, Ohio, February 16, 1912, being 72 years, 9 months, 6 days.  She lived near the place of her birth until the year of 1863 when she was married to Asberry S. Irwin and moved to Meigs county, Ohio, where she has since resided.

To this union were born six children, Henry A., of Chula Vista, Colorado, Oren G., desceased, who died in1885, Mrs. D. S. Reisinger, Gallipolis, [illegible text] of New York City, S. Asa, of Sanford, Fla., and Mrs. E. V. Atkins, who has always remained at home, and with her sister, lovingly cared for their mother in her last illness.

Her husband departed this life in the year 1881.  Thus for 30 years has the kind and loving mother been father and mother to her children.

She was converted under the preaching of Rev. T. A. Welsh, in the year 1872, and united with the Presbyterian Church  of Harrisonville, Ohio.  She has led a consistent Christian life as has been exemplified by her daily walk with her Saviour.

During her last illness she was very patient, often expressing herself of her willingness to go home saying she had no fear, as her Saviour in whom she had always trusted was with her and was here just waiting here to be called.

Thus by her death the church has lost and ardent supporter the neighborhood  a kind neighbor and the children a kind and affectionate mother.

She leaves to mourn thier loss five children, and five grandchildren, besides two sisters, one brother, and numerous relatives and friends, who have the comforting thought as expressed in St. John 14 chapter, 2nd verse.

In my father's house  are many mansion; if it were not so, I would have told you.  I go to prepare a place for you.

The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the Harrisonville Presbyterian church conducted by Rev. Greene of Pomeroy and she was laid to rest in the cemetery nearby.
